Mastering Movement of the Hip and Pelvis Workshop with Clinical Reasoning Day | New York 2024
October 19 - October 20
AUD $995.00Course Date & Info
This 2-day event aims to provide participants with all the clinical skills for muscle and movement assessment and training around the hip and pelvis, followed by a clinical reasoning day, where these techniques and strategies will be brought together in live patient demonstrations.
This practical hip workshop and clinical reasoning event is suitable for both new graduates and experienced physical therapists and other health and exercise professionals involved in exercise prescription and rehabilitation of the hip and pelvis.
Day 1: Saturday 19th October 2024: Mastering Movement of the Hip & Pelvis Workshop
Includes:
Pre-workshop Theory – 4 hours of online learning
The online component covers:
- A detailed review of functional anatomy of hip and pelvic musculature
- Changes in muscle function associated with joint pathology and unloading
- Implications for prescription of therapeutic exercise
Practical Workshop
The workshop covers:
- Assessment of the different aspects of muscle function for each group of synergists around the hip – hip flexors, abductors, extensors, external rotators and adductors, using standardised, objective measures
- Development of a therapeutic exercise program that addresses specific dysfunction within a muscle synergy while considering:
- Optimal efficiency and load-sharing within a muscle synergy and across the kinetic chain
- Impact on health of musculoskeletal tissues such as the underlying joint, local tendons and transiting nerves
- Specific needs of the individual
- Individual morphology or pathology
Day 2: Sunday 20th October 2024: Clinical Reasoning Day – Applications from the Mastering Movement Workshop
Day 2 will involve live patient demonstrations, where Dr Alison Grimaldi will assess and develop a therapeutic exercise program for each individual. This allows participants to see how the information and skills they have learned can be clinically applied to patients with varying presentations.
The patients included in this clinical reasoning day will have known diagnoses, so that the focus can be tailored to assessment of hip muscles and movement, and loading strategies used by patients that may be impacting on their clinical presentation. Where appropriate, the examination will also include demonstration of ultrasound assessment of deep hip muscle quality and function.
The demonstration will then include the development of an intervention plan, with focus around load modification, including postural and movement training, and a therapeutic exercise program. Again, where appropriate, a demonstration of real time ultrasound muscle training strategies may be included.
There will also then be opportunity for the group to reflect and ask questions about the assessment process and direction taken in the development of the intervention plan. We will also discuss appropriate progressions and considerations for assisting the patient with achieving their goals and returning to daily, work or recreational activities that have been impacted by their condition.
